echo chat notes
Hello Kyriakos! We have finished compiling everything that was spoken about in the Echo chat. Please check under the cut for things that were spoken about!
◉ TO START, if you have not been added to the calendar please leave your emails in this entry so that we can make sure you get added!
◉ Game spacing was discussed! The once-a-month rule for trauma games was clarified to only apply to full trauma as defined in this guide.
◉ We spent a while encouraging competitive games that are not trauma games! Ones like Yaksini’s recent board game, for example, objective number-based games where teams compete without maiming each other. We have a game discussion post here if you want some help coming up with ideas, and we have a game guide that has versions of commonly played games that are easy (usually) to run.
◉ Also on the subject of games, after some concerns of a few games running too long, it’s okay to enforce a hard time limit! Games can be time consuming even if they are fun to play in or run, but do whatever makes you most comfortable. This is, by no means, a requirement.
◉ There were also concerns about Echoes being apped to a theme diverging from this theme! While Echoes are meant to be fully-fleshed characters in their own right, it is important that they remain consistent as characters, and cute fluffy ducklings don’t start running Dangerbear-level trauma, or horrible murderous grimdark echoes run fluff bingo.
◉ We also spoke about the roles of Echoes! Echoes require interaction of some kind to stay around. Either they run a lot of games, or they bug people, but if people stop interacting with the Echo altogether they could end up disappearing. Or, in the case of patrons or Echoes that don’t run trauma games, the Reapers may be making a move on their realm and they need to depart to focus all of their attention on holding their realm. This is meant to be flexible to make things easier for Echo players, but to also show that Echoes do not get to get off without some kind of consequence if they happen to earn the scorn of everyone in Kyriakos.
◉ Speaking of patrons, the only thing that we request when teams patron shop is that we are emailed and alerted to the fact that a patroning happened. The teams need to do most of the work when it comes to patron shopping! But also, please do not feel as if you must patron. If your Echo wouldn’t accept, you are free to have them say no. Do what feels most in character for the Echo that you apped.
◉ Also on the subject of patroning, a team can break off a patron deal with an Echo they don’t like. If the team dislikes their patron, they are fully able to break off the deal and find a new Echo to patron them instead! It is even possible to have multiple patrons, but it is very difficult for a team to balance that. However, while a team can have multiple patrons, an Echo cannot patron to multiple teams.
◉ Another thing to note on the topic of patroning! Patrons are allowed to give their teams rewards for winning a lot. A good recent example is Jo giving Ratatoskr soda machines for winning a certain amount of games in a row.
◉ Echoes can run quests! Generally they should only give out items that make sense to exist in their realm, regardless of whether or not that item actually was there, but flexibility is again important and we won't mind that much regardless. Just make sure the difficulty of the quest is comparable to the coolness of the thing they are questing for!
◉ The difference between and Echo and a PC is that Echoes do not win back their memories or go through an a character arc like PCs do. Please do not treat your Echo like a PC even if they’re really fun to play! Things may come up in the future related to the lack of an Echo’s memory, but for now, they have no way to get them back. Unlike a PC, Echoes also need interaction to stay visible and solid and to retain their power.
◉ We now have an NPC borrowing and corunning document for players that may want to run games, Echoes that don't have the right sort of Echo for the style of game they want to run, and people that want to potentially organize corunning with other people! Please fill this out if you're an Echo.
◉ A log of the chat to read in its entirety can be found here.
◉ Finally, thank you to everyone that showed up! It was wonderful being able to talk to you and answer your questions. As always, if there are any questions or suggestions, please email us at kyriakosmods[at]gmail[dot]com!
