Hi, Kyriakos! There's been some chatter about how there's not much to do aside from games and memory fallout, and while I personally don't 100% agree with this, I can see where that feeling is coming from! For example, a mingle that's just [you are here, have fun] can be hard to work with, especially if a character is naturally much more inclined to react than act. Initiative is a two-way street, but throwing things at a wall to see what sticks isn't always the best method, so....!

What would players like to see, specifically, as far as minigames, events, and mingle setups go? I have an IC anon status effect post in the works, but would that actually be of interest to anyone? What would players like to see less of, and why?

Please keep in mind that plot is mod territory, though! This post is for figuring out what regular players (like me, as much as I am a tiny modfairy) can do, both with normal characters and with Echoes, to kickstart more fun things to engage with and react to.

DISCLAIMER the thoughts of a fresh meat whose character is still in that novel touch-all-the-things phase of freshness and also reasonably sociable, and a player who likes rolling around in settings/flavourtext pages:

things I'd like to see/already see w/ fun potential:

1) events that take the form of "requests" from npcs to do something/participate in something-- a great example is the fair event that Queen and Princess have roped the Cats into just now! In general this helps get characters who may not directly "quest" much themselves to get involved in a task. This doesn't have to be something big and long but could just also be a single post kind of deal.

2) enviro stuff nudging their way into character spaces. Like-- ok we know there are bears!! What if a post where TODAY BEARS ARE IN THE CASTLE WANDERING AROUND what do you do, that kind of thing. And you could have either bears being NPC'd or players NPCing bears for themselves or for each other, whichever works for energy levels!

3) minigames that maybe aren't run officially as minigames, but are essentially those, except they're shenanigan that takes place outside the "game" structure-- more integrated into the main Kyr world, or something like that? (this is probably similar to (1), tbh, the general idea is-- why should a majority of interesting stuff be necessarily kept to the form of "games"? Since Echoes are characters in and of themselves, it's possible they'd have reason to cause or inspire mingle-worthy/event-worthy things happening even outside the lines of games/quests/minigames, right?

UNLESS THERE'S A RULE ABOUT THIS SOMEWHERE I havent actually read the Echo pages in detail)

Seconding #2 in the sense that having more setting engagement would be cool! I know we can ping the mods for exploring, but there really hasn't been much IC or OOC incentive to do any guided exploring, plus that's still just doing a lone or small group thing rather than open to everyone at once.

So things like SUDDENLY BEARS IN THE CASTLE, or things like memory flower posts but with other plants or animals, or even just 'tonight the fireflies are out in force', anything that could be feasibly done with the setting. . . stuff that characters could run into on their own at any time, but put into a mingle so the less sociable/adventurous characters have an excuse to poke at it and make something of it if they want.

As an aside, we had been asked before to limit sort of what #1 is because that is more of the realm of the Cats! I would gladly run more little mini events for people to get some quests in but that was something we were asked not to do as much because it takes away from the purpose of Cats as an entity in some ways.

I LOVE NUMBER TWO THO I WANT BEARS IN THE CASTLE. I would gladly NPC any wildlife if people wanted to go on like idk. THERE IS A GIANT MONSTER BEAR let's kill it type events. I will gladly NPC any monsters for people because I love orchestrating RP fights.

For 3, I was considering having my character throw a Thanksgiving-style party and officially inviting everyone and so forth. Is that sort of like what you're looking for?

Re: 3 (and 1 also I guess?) - sort of like that, yeah! Though I was thinking more specifically of Echoes doing those things, too. And not just one-off things but like--- Echo subplots, almost? Maybe an Echo has lost something that needs to be found, or broken something that needs to be fixed, or just needs a certain number of people to jump into magical leafpiles because they're doing an experiment about the poofiness of leaves--- stuff like that.

I don't actually remember saying this! Echoes are completely free to run their own mini-events and mini-games. The only limits are what can be given. Echoes can give things like pokemon or a magical sword if they wanted, but Cats cannot.

I feel like in one of the very first Cat discussion posts we were asked to limit things like minigames, but maybe it was in terms of unannounced ones?

It might have been. I honestly don't remember saying anything about limiting what you guys can do, though, and neither does Hannah since I tapped her about it too. Minigames have been brought up in terms of game pacing before, but that's the only thing that I'm remembering off the top of my head aside from the item thing.

Okay, I went and looked things up and the limit happened... mostly because the game was moving too fast and the minigames were getting overwhelming on top of the normal games. So the only limit was just "please slow it down a little so people can keep up."

TWO THINGS:

1) Did people enjoy the Halloween-themed mingle I put up a few days ago? I would gladly put up more like it (maybe not with candy, but other Jo-related things) if it was a good thing for everyone! Jo is very nosy and likes people to have fun, so she would totally have it rain glitter in the courtyard or make an area for ice skating or anything you'd associate with "adorable teenage girl".

2) If anyone ever wants to do some monster hunting or wants someone to NPC some bears idk, getting lose and fighting characters, let me know! Since PvP isn't an option outside of games without repercussions, something that might be fun is the addition of some PvE! I am considering apping an Echo who does nothing but summon monsters to wreck people's sandcastles and other butts things like that, and she would gladly provide some monster hunt stuff for interested parties.

Could you hold off on ice skating, please? ;w; Aoko is currently undertaking a HUGE quest for an ice skating rink, which I plan to complete in November! She'd be incredibly disheartened if one just popped up, even temporarily.

oh yeah, that's totally fine! I had no idea she was doing that; instead I could wait and have it be like "today the ice skating rink makes you skate extra super fast" or something instead. <3

AS AN ADDENDUM TO (2) - it doesn't necessarily have to be limited to fight-type PvE encounters necessarily, I feel! So as to let characters have different types of adventures with the environment. Things like rennyas being a little more rambunctious than usual and swiping people's things, or maybe the horses from the farm breaking lose and needing to be caught, etc etc etc BOUNDLESS POSSIBILITY

I love the idea of pooling ideas for things. Even though I don't ... have the account info for soulping if it were ever needed (is it shared if requested? or only really for gamerunner types?) On a similar note, if the account it accessible by request for people to make mingles, maybe we can either make a sticky post or a thing on the sidebar of, like, pooled ideas and common things people can run with that aren't just [ MINGLE POST! ]? For quick reference's sake.

That said I'd love more hooky stuff for mingles. On the other hand, not too many people use hooky posts to do like GENERAL THINGS if that makes sense? I know if I was going to have Rook like DELIVER SOMETHING TO X TEAM or SET SOMETHING UP IN HIS DORM I'd consider whether or not I'd want to jump a mingle with a hook like "itp nametags with ask me about" or something. So trying to split up general mingles and hooky mingles might be a good idea? So they're both covered without too much time passing between games or between IC days.

That said here are a bunch of random ideas from various games that might work for a hook for either posts/games/what have you for a pool if there's some kind of POOL LIST made on an account. A lot of this is shit I've seen in CFUD and Aather so while maybe not usable as is in some cases, I'm sure people can twist things up to make it work in Kyr's setting.

- Truth posts! Both known and not known ICly since I know that can vary IC and OOCly depending on what people want.
- Weather posts. Rain! Sleet! Snow! Dildos (not really) (or SUPER REALLY).
- Dream posts. Can be themed for HAPPY or AWFUL dreams.
- An easy variant of "boggarts" which is something that reacts and shifts into a character's fear to freak them out. Fear stuff can easily be put into a game too. :T Can also be spun for not BAD things too.
- Pranky Echoes running mingles that are like "if you walk into this room you get LOCKED IN and someone else is there and have to do or talk about X-subject to get out." Or even simpler things like locked in with someone you don't know INTRODUCE YOURSELVES TO GET OUT.
- Memory share things other than the flowers. I've seen general posts that happen in places like the great hall and whatnot with foods and things offered with notes of take one, share a memory with someone-- this is kind of like the above idea.
- Nametag posts which have happened here before.
- Ask me about nametag posts which have also happened.
- More handcuffs!
- Like the above mentioned bears, griffons and jackalopes and rennya too?
- I haven't seen too much focus on the public baths? Mingles there could b fun.
- Rennya mingles can also be fun with their illusions. Places from home and memories, etc. Can be KAWAII or NO.

As an aside, other than general mingles, I always love to see character specific posts. 'w' (I've done a FAIL VANSHIP post and plan to do some more stuff that's more specific and focused on a certain thing in the future)

I can't say re; soulping AT THIS TIME but any character that's a member of the kyriakos community can post a mingle! Just be sure to turn off comment notifs for the sake of your inbox.

If the soulping password is requested I can toss it in your direction. It's a gamerunner journal, but we also use it for NPCing random encounters or posting mingles, so!

The sticky post isn't a bad idea at all, either. The sidebar is a little cluttered so I'd be unsure about putting another link in the sidebar unless absolutely necessary but maybe we should ask Jake about that since he might kill me if I mess with the sidebar anyway.

I MEANT MORE the sidebar on the soulping journal itself (if not a post) that people can maybe add to as needed if more ideas suddenly come up, but I know that it might be easy to miss since not many people actually go to look at the journal itself. :|a

Yeeeah, that's a problem. I don't think many people bother to look at the journal itself unless they have a game post in it.

What if we made a different journal for the sake of posting mingles/keeping the ideas in it that everyone could easily access? I'm a little hesitant to give out the password to EVERYONE for soulping because it is the gamepost journal too, and has functions past posting mingles.
