patron discussion post
Jun. 7th, 2016 10:16 pmHello, Kyriakos!
This is a discussion post for patrons that is going to serve a few purposes, but before we get to that, we have an announcement to make about our rules for playing echoes. Over the past couple of months, we've become increasingly aware that players want to run a variety of games while also being involved in the patroning system, but two echoes simply isn't enough to do all of that, especially when considering trauma games or games with minor traumatic elements. Because of that, effective immediately, we're instituting two changes to how echoes are playable in Kyriakos:
1) The echo cap is being raised from 2 to 3.
2) For the purposes of the echo cap, patrons are now distinct from non-patron echoes and do not count towards the cap.
Effectively what this means is that in addition to being able to play one more echo, if you control a patron, they won't count towards the cap, so you can play a patron and up to three regular echoes. We will also consider additional increases to the cap on a case-by-case basis for players who routinely use their echoes to uniquely affect Kyriakos with games, events, unique posts, plot involvement and the like. If you think you can bring something interesting to the table, be it some kind of event, a genre of game you're not capable of doing with your current group of echoes, etc., email the mods and we'll see what we can do. Similarly, situations where a player already controls three echoes and a patron and needs to bump the patron down to a normal echo, we will deal with those situations on a case-by-case basis.
On that note and segueing into the main purpose of this post, since it's come up a couple times recently, we will say there is technically not a limit on playing patrons (that is, different patrons, not the same one) for more than one team, but we want to stress that players should be very careful about this and be mindful of their own limits. We understand there are a lot of gaps that need to be filled patron-wise right now and we want to encourage players who want to help with that, but we also want to caution players to be sure they can handle playing a patron before they start, to avoid more turnover in the future.
On that note, this post is for the following purposes.
1) For teams to search for interested echo players to patron their teams and vice-versa.
2) To discuss any potential IC gatherings to make the results of these discussions a reality.
3) To discuss the patron system itself and what ways it can be adjusted to avoid further turnover.
To the third point, there's been a lot of patron turnover, patrons being dropped or having to separate from their teams fairly consistently since patron AC was instituted a few months ago and the turnover's continued even despite a couple of adjustments to the AC. A couple reasons we've heard for this are a lack of ways for patrons to meaningfully get involved in the game and their teams besides healquests, which only come around occasionally and burnout due to the current status of the plot and the game's setting. We want to get player's thoughts on the current patron system and ways to improve it so we can continue to adjust it and hopefully make it more stable.
